What is Live Well in Wellington?
Live Well in Wellington is Council’s health and wellbeing plan for 2025–2029. It’s a requirement under the Victorian Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008 and outlines how we will support the health, safety and wellbeing of our community over the next four years.
The plan sets out clear priorities and actions to help people live well - by improving access to local services, supporting community-led projects, making our spaces more inclusive, and advocating for what our community needs. It was developed alongside the Council Plan 2025–29 and recognises that good health is about more than just healthcare. It’s also about where we live, how safe and included we feel, and the opportunities we have in daily life.
Our Priorities
Live Well in Wellington focuses on three key areas:
Safe and Respectful - Preventing family violence, supporting gender equity, and reducing harm from alcohol, tobacco, vapes and other drugs.
Mental Health and Wellbeing - Helping people feel connected, supported and valued - especially those from diverse or vulnerable groups.
Healthy and Active - Creating local environments and opportunities that support healthy eating and physical activity.

How we’ll deliver Live Well in Wellington
Live Well in Wellington will be put into action through annual action plans and reviewed each year to track our progress. While Council leads the plan, we can’t do it alone. That’s why strong partnerships with local health services, community groups and residents are at the heart of this work.
Together, we’re working toward a Wellington Shire where everyone has the opportunity to live a healthier, more connected life.
How Live Well in Wellington works with the Council Plan
The Council Plan 2025–29 and Live Well in Wellington work together. The Council Plan sets the overall direction for the organisation, including strategic objectives, major initiatives, and actions that Council will deliver over the next four years. Many of these directly support the goals in the Live Well in Wellington Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan.
To help track progress, the Council Plan outlines specific Major Initiatives (big, strategic pieces of work) and Actions (key projects and activities) that are reviewed and reported on across each year.
You’ll notice that many of these actions contribute to one or more of the health and wellbeing priorities including: creating safe and respectful communities, supporting mental health and wellbeing, and encouraging healthy and active lifestyles. These are tagged as Live Well, viewed on the Performance tab of the Council Plan page.
Understanding performance
Live Well in Wellington performance is tracked in several ways to make sure we are delivering on our goals:
- Annual action plans: Each year, Council sets out a list of actions aligned to the Council Plan and these are known as Objectives in Live Well in Wellington. These are the specific things we aim to achieve.
- Progress reporting: We monitor and publicly report progress on our major initiatives, actions and health and wellbeing objectives through Council’s reporting processes, and by sharing this data on the Future Wellington website under either the Council Plan or Live Well in Wellington. For Live Well in Wellington, progress is also measured using population-level health data, local insights, and evaluation from our partners. Performance on Council Plan initiatives and actions are updated quarterly, while Live Well in Wellington data is measured yearly.
- Icons and links: On this website, you may see icons or notes showing where a Council Plan action also supports a Live Well in Wellington priority.
Why this matters
By linking the Council Plan and Live Well in Wellington, we can deliver better, more coordinated outcomes. It ensures health and wellbeing are considered in everything we do, from infrastructure and planning to community services and advocacy.
Together, these plans guide how Council works towards a thriving, healthy, and connected Wellington Shire.
